This series of paintings, begun in 1987 and reworked over the following years, depicts social, national, and political events and ceremonies on large canvases, giving the scenes a “larger-than-life” presence. The paintings explore the ecstatic emotions awakened by communal gatherings and their power to generate and reinforce shared social attitudes and modes of behavior. As a poetic device, I use the fluidity and dripping of the paint to disrupt the solidity of the depicted events, allowing the images to extend beyond the specific actions taking place. The resulting tension encourages the viewer to look at “the bigger picture”—the larger social and psychological forces that give these communal events their emotional and political power.

סדרת ציורים זו, אשר נוצרה ב- 1987 ועברה עדכונים שוב במהלך השנים, מתארת טקסים חברתיים, לאומיים ופוליטיים על קנבסים גדולים, המעניקים לסצנות מראית של היותן "גדולות מהחיים". הציורים מתארים את הרגשות האקסטטיים המתעוררים בתכנסויות קהילתיות ואת יכולתם לקדם פעילויות חברתיות ודרכי חשיבה. כאמצעי פואטי, הציורים משתמשים בנזילות הצבע, המאפשרת לצופים להתמקד ב"תמונה הגדולה" הנמצאת מעבר לאירועים המתרחשים בציור.
