This painting was inspired by the harshness of the sun when I lived in the southern city of Beer-Sheba. I Imagined the prophet Jonah as he lay outside the walls of the city of Ninveh and wished to die. The low angle of view both allows to capture the bright light of the sun and denies the possibility of human control of the scene as in Renaissance linear perspective that assumes the viewer is upright and dominant.
